The unit is a 12 bed mixed medical and surgical ICU with co located cardiothoracic intensive care services admitting 1200 patients per year. The unit is accredited for 24 months of core training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine. The ICU Registrar also rotates through the ICU at St. Vincent's Private Hospital.
The ICU registrar is a relatively senior appointment. The registrar is expected to learn skills in the assessment, triage, resuscitation and further management of patients with acute medical and surgical disorders. The registrar will be expected to learn techniques and procedures associated with respiratory, cardiovascular and renal support.
